What is MYCO?

The Memphis Youth Chess Organization is a youth-led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose goals are to spread the knowledge of chess to all students. We share the wonders of chess to all children for free.

Our Mission

As one of the nation’s first non-profits dedicated to teaching chess to K-8, our goal is to allow children to experience the wonders of chess through training as well as participating in practice tournaments. The benefits of chess are innumerable, and we hope to allow children to experience that themselves.

1000+ Hours

served to the community

Since its founding, the Memphis Youth Chess Organization has served over 1000 hours to the community consisting of over 300 students across the globe. Students can participate in activities such as tactic fests, tournaments, simultaneous exhibitions, and much more.

Aatish Satheesh

Co-President

From the age of 4, Aatish discovered a love and unwavering passion for the timeless game of chess. Guided by renowned grandmasters, he underwent rigorous training that allowed him to win prestigious competitions. He not only secured first place at the esteemed National Scholastic Chess Tournament, but he also clinched several state and city championships (all USCF tournaments). Now, Aatish aspires to enrich the lives of chess prodigies by imparting his understanding of the game, thereby fostering their development into exceptional players. Through his involvement with Memphis Youth Chess, he hopes to spread the joy of playing chess, empowering young talents to unleash their fullest potential on the board.

Sahil Baligar

Instructor

Sahil is a USCF (US Chess Federation) Rated Player. He has been playing chess since his age of 5 years old and has been in school chess club and has competed in many local, regional, state, and national level tournaments. Sahil is is currently a Senior at Collierville High School. He not only enjoys playing Chess but also enjoys teaching the younger generation, encouraging them to become better players. He finds that Chess has helped him to focus and excel in several skills, and so he wants to share his expertise with other students and help the community.

Saharsh Satheesh

Co-Founder

Saharsh started chess when he was just 6 years old and later trained under the most admired chess coaches in the city. He was also fortunate to be trained under various Grandmasters around the world, including Sebina Foisor. After numerous national and world tournament appearances including numerous state championships and several city championships, Saharsh hopes to spread the joy that chess brought to him by sharing his knowledge to aspiring chess players.

Priyanshu Alluri

Co-Founder

Priyanshu Alluri, a Senior at Collierville High School, has been playing chess for many years. After being asked to teach students at the Collierville Middle School Chess Team, he discovered that he truly enjoyed helping others learn and develop their chess skills. He now hopes to continue to help others learn and grow through the Memphis Youth Chess Organization.

Shiven Sasipalli

Co-Founder

Shiven Sasipalli is currently a Senior at Collierville High School. He has played chess for over 5 years and helps to tutor kids in the Collierville Middle Chess Team. He hopes to show all kids that chess is not a game for brainiacs, but is in fact a way to view the world. He hopes to show kids that chess is a reflection of the world around them, and hopes to foster a love for this game among the younger kids of our community.

Bhavesh Kotta

Co-founder

After many years of playing chess, Bhavesh Kotta, a current student at Collierville High School, has decided to enlighten a new generation of kids with the magnificent game of chess. He has played chess since kindergarten, and since that time, he has been on a journey to become the best chess player he can be. He has already started his journey of teaching chess through his time at Collierville Middle School and continues to do so through Memphis Youth Chess Organization. He hopes that he can foster a love for the game of chess in the youth of our world and hopes to show them that learning the game can also help them become better thinkers by giving them different ways to dissect any situation that is thrown at them.
