Spring 2021 Tournament Results

Almost 10 months ago, Memphis Youth Chess Organization hosted its first lesson. We started off with 30 students, and today, we have grown to over 100 students. It’s remarkable to see so many students passionate about chess and wanting to improve their understanding and love for the game.

Chess is a game that requires diligence, commitment, and practice. The lessons we host every Saturday solidify the first two points, but practicing is also necessary to improve as a chess player. In order to allow students to implement what they have learned and practice with the other students, we began hosting a practice chess tournament every Saturday. Those practice tournaments were very popular, and students loved the competitive yet fun atmosphere where they had the opportunity to practice the skills they learned during the regular lessons.

Taking that a step further, on March 13th, 2021, Memphis Youth Chess Organization hosted its first official chess tournament, the Spring 2021 Tournament. The top 3 winners in each of the three divisions received trophies. This tournament had the largest turnout yet, and we’re very proud to announce the winners in each category.

We’ve seen tremendous growth in our students' chess skills from our first lesson to today, and we’re so proud of you all. We have many more events planned for the year, all of which will cultivate our students' knowledge and foster their love for the game. Chess is a game of continuous practice and refinement, and thank you, parents, for taking the first step towards strengthening your child's mental growth and development.
