Getting Started With Lichess

Lichess is a free and open-source Internet chess server run by a non-profit organization of the same name. If you are interested in participating in our free, online weekly tournaments conducted on the first Saturday of every month, you will need to have created a Lichess account. We will guide you through the steps of how to create an account below as well as the process for joining the Memphis Youth Chess Organization team and tournaments.

Step 1

Go to https://lichess.org/signup

Step 2

Fill out your information and check all four buttons. Then click on the “register” button.

Step 3

After you register, click on this link here which will take you to the Memphis Youth Chess Organization team page on Lichess. Before proceeding with the below, make sure that your username is displayed at the top right rather than a blue “SIGN IN” text. If it is the latter, click on it and sign in with the username and password you used in step 1.

In the Message box, enter your name after the preexisting message. Next, solve the one move checkmate below (which is a chess CAPTCHA). Lastly, click on the “JOIN TEAM” button.

And that’s it!

One of us will accept you to the team shortly after you join.
